The JCC of Schenectady presented on Sunday, October 19th its second annual Capital Capabilities Festival, a family friendly event celebrating the artistic talents of individuals with developmental and other disabilities. Emcee was Dori Marlin of CBS6 and Honorary Chair was Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. The event took place from 1 – 4 PM at the JCC on the Golub Family Campus, 2565 Balltown Road, Niskayuna.


Capital Capabilities featured an organization fair from local agencies, a large quilt incorporating eleven local organizations on the theme of “Dream, Create, Achieve,” the BrainWaves music band, art exhibit and short films. The different demonstrations included Cooking with Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, Flower arrangement, Challah baking with Rabbi Jonathan Rubenstein of Temple Sinai, Ceramics demonstration, and Puzzles Café presentation. Ten therapy dogs were available to meet and greet the audience of hundred and fifty attendees.


Partner organizations included The JCC of Schenectady, Congregation Gates of Heaven, Congregation Beth Israel, Congregation Agudat Achim, Living Resources, Schenectady ARC, The Arts Center of the Capital Region, New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDO), YWCA, and Center for Disability Services. The event was sponsored by MVP Health Care and partially supported by a Schenectady County Initiative Grant.
