Your Summer of Fun will Start in

Our Management/Supervisory Staff for Summer 2008:

The theme for this summer will be Around the World in 40 Days. Campers will learn what it is like to be Jewish from Albany to Zimbabwe. They will be encouraged to notice the similarities of various parts of the world and appreciate the differences. There will be hands on activities, visitors from different regions, games from all over the world and a special international version of our annual color games.

Camp Sessions:
Full summer (8 weeks):
June 30 - August 22 (No camp on July 4th)

2 week sessions:
Session 1: June 30 - July 11 (No Camp on July 4th)
Session 2: July 14 - July 25
Session 3: July 28 - August 8
Session 4: August 11 - August 22

Camp Hours:
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Drop off between 8:45 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.)
Extended Care (for all ages) is available from 7:00 - 9:00AM and / or 4:00 - 6:00PM
A snack is provided during the 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. period. The Bonim – Tzofim (K-6th grade) campers can make use of the playground, play games or enjoy an arts & crafts activity. The Kitanim (ages 3-4) campers use the early childhood playground and the indoor classrooms. On inclement weather days extended care takes place in the gymnasium.

Monday, March 3, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. - for JCC Members
Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - for Kid’s Time Families
Monday, April 14, 2008 - for Non-Member Families



Groups:
KITANIM - – 3 or 4 years old by December 1, 2008
Unit Head: Regina Baker (6th Summer with Camp)
• Swim lessons and recreational swim
• Arts and Crafts
• Nature
• Outdoor games
• Music
• Half day option available
• 2, 3 or 5 day options
• Qualified staff
• Small groups
* Please note: Children who are not toilet trained are not allowed in the big pool.
* Lessons may be provided in the kiddie pool when possible.
* Due to scheduling, campers who only attend camp 2 or 3 days per week may not be able to participate in all listed activities.


BONIM - entering kindergarten or first grade in September 2008
Unit Head: Danielle Seaman (7th Summer with Camp)

YELADIM - entering 2nd and 3rd grades
Unit Leader: Shana Malkis (7th Summer with Camp)
- Daily swim lessons and recreational swim
- The Yeladim Unit will have two late nights
- Unit wide activities
- 2 Chugim (choices) daily: ( • Tennis, • Jewelry making, • Soccer, • Archery, • Science, • Drawing, • Nature)



TZOFIM (- entering 4th, 5th & 6th grades
Unit Leader: Chris Lasher (11th Summer with Camp)
- Daily swim lessons and recreational swim
- The Tzofim Unit will have two overnights
- Unit wide activities
- 2 Chugim (choices) daily: ( • Tennis, • Jewelry making, • Soccer, • Archery, • Science, • Drawing, • Nature)

New This Year: Tzofim trips once each session!!!
Campers in the Tzofim unit will have the opportunity to go on field trips once each session. These trips will include laser tag, rock climbing, and two other great adventures. The campers will be accompanied by their camp counselors and transportation will be provided by Northland Transportation. The cost for all trips is included in the camp tuition.


Swimming
Camp Aquatics Director: Mallory Baughman (5th Summer with Camp)
Swimming is offered twice daily.
* One 30 minute instructional lesson
* One 30 minute free swim
Instructional lessons are taught by certified lifeguards and are assisted by counselors.
* Small class sizes
The swim program offers American Red Cross levels 1-6, teaching swimming fundamentals.
* Swim level 6 also covers fitness swimming, diving, swimming techniques, and an introduction to life guarding.
On the first day of camp, Water Safety Instructors will place the children in their appropriate levels based on an assessment of their swimming ability.

* The Robert & Dorothy Ludwig Schenectady Jewish Community Center reserves the right to modify the schedule due to weather conditions and/or other unforeseen circumstances. The staff will make every effort to keep parents informed of any changes.


This summer Camp Chaverim will have 3 Israeli Shlichim. Shlichim are visitors from Israel, who will assist the camp in learning Judaic Culture. Their role is to make Israel part of Camp Chaverim, as well as to serve as resources. While in town they will stay with volunteer families. If your family may be interested in volunteering as a host family, please call Mitch or Andy at 377-8803.
