ECE Floater/Substitute

Position Summary:

A Floater/ Substitute is one who is responsible for working in multiple classrooms, depending on the need on any given day. A Floater/Substitute  should be comfortable working with many different age groups and be willing to have a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Provide age appropriate care for each infant or child
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing the daily program of activities
  • Follow the directions and assignments given by the ECE Director and/or Assistant Director
  • Help to maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of the infants or children
  • Remain in compliance with OCFS regulations
  • Learn and understand how to work in the various ECE classrooms
  • Observe each child daily to assess their skills, interests, and needs to facilitate learning and growth
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the Center
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Six (6) months of paid or volunteer experience working with children
  • Must demonstrate interest in working with young children, parents, and volunteers
  • Must demonstrate success in working as member of a team
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
  • Demonstrate ability to work well with young children
  • Possess a warm, loving, and nurturing personality
  • Familiarity with NYS OCFS regulations preferred

INFANT TEACHER

Position Summary

We are seeking an individual who has experience working with children from birth tho 18 months of age, someone who is innovative, takes initiative, engaging and can foster positive relationships with coworkers, parents and SJCC members.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Providing care to each child that is appropriate for the age of each child.
  • Demonstrating understanding of childhood development for children and helping to manage and create a classroom environment with that knowledge
  • Maintaining supervision and safety of the children at all times.
  • Remaining in compliance with OFCS regulations at all times

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  •  One (1) year of experience working with infants
  • Must demonstrate success in working as member of a team
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
  • Possess a warm, loving, and nurturing personality
  • Familiarity with NYS OCFS regulations preferred
  • Must receive clearance by NYS OCFS at the time of hire

Lead Preschool Teacher

A Lead Teacher is responsible for executing lesson plans, activities for the day, and for working cooperatively with his/her Assistant Teacher by providing direction to effectively manage the classroom. A great Lead Teacher is one who takes initiative, is reliable, and is able to easily form relationships with young children.

This is a Full-Time 10 month position.

 Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Provide age appropriate care for each child
  • Lead the class by creating a curriculum and providing engaging activities for the students
  • Help to maintain a well-organized, supervised, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children
  • Assist children in developing their social and cognitive skills as well as provide them with basic education.
  • Watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring problems to the attention of parents
  • Keep records of the students’ progress, routines, and interests, and keep parents informed about their child’s development
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and accrue a specified number of training hours
  • Participate in the swim program under the direction of the swim instructor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum of 6 months of paid or volunteer experience working with children
  • Must demonstrate interest in working with young children, parents, and volunteers
  • Must demonstrate success in working as member of a team
  • Must have effective and strong communication skills (written and oral)

Assistant Preschool Teacher

Position Summary:

An Assistant Teacher aides the Lead Teacher in executing lesson plans or activities for the day. Additionally, the Assistant Teacher may be responsible for leading the class in the absence of the Lead Teacher. A great Assistant Teacher is one who takes initiative, actively seeks out ways in which they can aid the teacher leading the group, is reliable, is able to easily form relationships with young children, and can work in collaboration with the Lead Teacher to create a nurturing environment in the classroom.  

This is a Full-Time 10 month position.

Lead Kindergarten Teacher (After Care)

Position Summary:

The SJCC is in need of a Kindergarten Afterschool Care Teacher who will be responsible for providing an enriching afterschool environment. We are seeking an individual who has experience working with young children, someone who is innovative, takes initiative, is engaging and can foster positive relationships with coworkers, parents and SJCC members.  This is a Part-Time 10 month position.

The Kindergarten After School Program is offered to Kindergarten students who attend an elementary school in the Niskayuna School District.  Transportation is provided by Niskayuna Schools and the program is held Monday-Friday from 2:10 p.m. until 6:00 p.m and the teacher would need to report by 1:00 p.m. in order to have sufficient planning time. Our child care services in the afternoon offer a combination of structure and freedom for the children to explore their own interests.  The teacher would be responsible for creating a curriculum that are based on weekly themes, with a variety of activities.  Additionally, the teacher will be expected to integrate Jewish themes and values into lesson plans as set forth by the Director. These would include stories, art activities, games, music and movement, as well as time in the gym.  Additionally, Kindergarteners have a planned swimming lesson once per week in the SJCC indoor pool. Teachers are expected to dress in swim wear and help supervise the students who are being taught by a lifeguard.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Demonstrating a mastery of understanding of childhood development.
  • Helping to manage and create a classroom environment with that knowledge.
  • Maintaining supervision and safety of the children at all times.

  • Reporting to the ECE Director/Assistant Director and following through with assignments.
  • Attending monthly staff meetings and accruing a specified number of training hours.
  • Accepting responsibility for specific assignments at the discretion of the Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Child Development Associate Credential or a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable and have experience working with young children.
  • Familiarity with NYS OCFS regulations is preferred.
  • Must receive clearance by NYS OCFS at the time of hire.
  • Possesses a warm, loving and nurturing personality.
  • Must demonstrate success in working as member of a team.
  • Must have effective and strong communication skills (written and oral).

After School Activity Leader

Hiring immediately for activity leaders for Niskayuna After School Programs serving children in grades K - 5. Responsibilities include leading activities such as art, sports, music, drama, nature, cooking etc., supervising outside play, helping with homework. Additional responsibilities include setting up and cleaning up the program, parent communication, record keeping, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have experience working with young children.
  • Must receive clearance by NYS OCFS at the time of hire.
  • Possesses a warm, loving and nurturing personality. 

Hours of the position are Monday - Friday are 1:45 pm - 6:00 pm. Interviews are being scheduled ASAP.

Lifeguards

The SJCC has an Immediate Opening for Lifeguards. We open at 5:30am and close no later than 9:30pm daily. We have an Indoor pool and an Outdoor pool. Applicants must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard/First Aid Certification. Looking for shifts everyday.

Being professional
Must have a current LG/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Ability to work with all age groups

Aqua Instructor

The Schenectady JCC is in need of Aqua Instructors for all water classes. 


Group Exercise Instructors 

The Schenectady JCC is looking for certified spinning and group fitness instructors to teach at our newly designed fitness facility. We are looking for the top instructors in the area and we are offering a competitive pay scale. We are especially looking for instructors who have experience with teaching  High intensity classes, Yoga, TRX, and Kettle bells.

   
WHEN: Day and Evening class times, Sunday-Friday. 
WHAT: All Group Exercise Classes. Proper certification & education background is a must. Certification in a variety of classes and at all levels is preferred. 
 

 Personal Trainer

A successful Personal Trainer will have excellent communication skills, customer service and the ability to provide a comprehensive exercise prescription for their clients.  Must have an overall positive attitude, great sense of fun and must present a professional image both internally and externally at all times.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Create and demonstrate a safe and effective exercise program for member of the Schenectady JCC in accordance with the fitness center director.
  • Maintain professional standards among clients.  
  • Instruct and coach both groups and individuals in various exercises and activities.
  • Help clients assess their physical fitness levels and encourage and help them set and reach their fitness goals.
  • Motivate clients and team members.
  • Identify specific training needs.
  • Construct instructional programs customized to each client.
  • Maintain certifications through continuing education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current CPR/AED and first aid certification required.
  • Certified personal trainer certificate from recognized authority.
  • Mature, highly organized, flexible, and creative, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • A positive attitude, hard worker who also enjoys having fun!

 


Water Safety Instructor

The SJCC has an Immediate Opening for Water Safety Instructors to teach group Red Cross Lessons and Private Lessons are also available. Classes are held Monday - Friday evenings and also on Sundays. Private Lessons can be offered during open swim any day but Saturday. 

Requirements:
Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.
Strong swimming background.
Must have a current WSI Certification.
Good communications skills.
Ability to work with all age groups. 
Reliable.

 

 


Fitness Floor/Babysitting Associate

The SJCC has an immediate opening for a Fitness Floor/Babysitting Associate this person would work on the fitness floor or babysitting room only. He/she would be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the fitness floor or babysitting room. 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Clean and check fitness equipment
  • Wash & dry fitness towels
  • Vacuum fitness facility
  • Check toys, games etc for possible hazards in babysitting room
  • Assume an active role with the children
 
Requirements:
  • Able to work independently and as a team
  • Enjoy repetitive task and keeping things clean and orderly
  • Current CPR/AED and first aid certification 
  • Experience working with children
  • A positive, up beat spirit, "can do" attitude and great sense of fun.

 

 Sports & Wellness Desk Associate 

The Sports and Wellness Desk associate will collaborate closely with the personal trainers, group exercise instructors, floor associates and babysitting staff. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask and adhere to internal deadlines.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Verify membership of all entering Sports and Wellness areas.
  • Collect fees for programs,personal training packages and other necessary Sports and Wellness fees for members and non-members.
  • Answer phones for the center and other assigned administrative tasks as deemed necessary.
  • Communicate with customers about upcoming events, new programs and membership status and opportunities.
  • Greet members by name and ask it they need assistance.
  • Assist and address all members' questions/concerns while providing outstanding customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current CPR/AED and first aid certification
  • Six (6) months customer service experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
