Professional: Those activities that relate to the professional management of the JCC in its broadest sense. Those activities include:

- Direct recruitment and recruitment strategies.
- Interviewing and interviewing strategies.

- Creating and implementing an on-boarding program.
- Creating and implementing ongoing staff training throughout the year; including staff retreats.

Team Building
- Creating and implementing a staff recognition program including staff  birthdays, professional & personal milestones.
- Creating and implementing team building fun activities that increase staff  comradery and collaboration.

- Creating and implementing volunteer / board activities in all of the above mentioned areas.
- Provide staff support to personnel committee on ad needed basis.

Internal Communications
 - Creating and implementing internal communications vehicles (staff newsletters, e-portals, etc.) to connect staff.

Compliance / Liability
- Management of all terminations to ensure they are conducted to limit JCC liability and exposure to control unemployment insurance costs.
- Liaison function between management and staff.
- Serving as an address for individual staff complaints, whistleblower or sexual harassment issues when director efforts are insufficient.
- Ensuring job descriptions are compliant, refreshed and serve as a consensus  document direct supervisor and employee.
- Employee Safety and Risk Management: Be on top of all regulations and  ensure that the JCC makes both the appropriate capital repairs / additions plus are trained in up to date OSHA, risk management, and security training.
- Workman’s Comp: ensure that JCC workplace has limited liability in terms of  workman’s Comp.

 - Compensation: undertake periodic salary survey to determine if SJCC total  compensation package is in line with those in the nonprofit field, make recommendations to management / personnel committee and implement changes.
 - Review and make periodic recommendations for JCC organization chart.
- Become an expert on staff / volunteer / board relations and help to develop policies and processes to maintain productive relations.

 - Posting job descriptions.
- Ensuring employment process is compliant and all documentation and necessary screening and background checks are completed.
- Updating all HR literature / policies and posting of all State & Federal workplace regulations.
- Answering all calls for job recommendations from employers, etc.
- Benefits: ensure that all benefits are properly posted and information is available to all employees and managers.
- Run total compensation statements for all employees at year end.
- Payroll support.
- Insurance Administration: health, medical etc. and is liaison with broker.
- Maintain attendance & PTO system and report to management / staff when there are variances. 


- Proven working experience as HR manager or other HR executive.
- People oriented and results driven.
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- BS / MS degree in Human Resources or related field.
- In depth knowledge of labor law and HR practices.
- Ability to effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization.



The Membership Associate is responsible for membership efforts at the Schenectady Jewish Community Center (SJCC). Reporting directly to the Executive Director, their focus is membership sales, retention and associated functions necessary to achieve excellent results. This includes assuring that each members relationship with the JCC starts out positive in the intake process and continues successfully in all of the transactions and interactions that the member has with the JCC. The Candidate is expected to be innovative, imaginative and an enthusiastic role model for members and other staff. They should embrace the SJCC's mission and strategic plan in guiding current and future efforts.

I. Membership
- Proper intake of all new members
- Taking potential and new members on tours of the JCC in order to identify how the JCC can best meet their needs.
- Organizing special events geared towards membership recruitment and retention.
- Staying current with competitive marketplace, both locally and nationally.
- Staying current with internal programs and services.
- Developing membership communications (print, social media) including production of membership related materials in conjunction with the JCC's marketing/communications firm.
- Facilitating a positive growth image of the JCC in the community.
- Collaborating with JCC staff and volunteer leadership to create and present membership options geared to current assessments of membership needs.
- Developing working relationships with area synagogues, communal organizations and agencies, schools, organizations and businesses related to the work of the JCC.
- Analyzing demographic data to guide membership efforts.
- Staffing a membership/marketing committee.

II. Cultivate a Membership Sales Culture
- Helping to develop sales expectations of JCC department heads including bottom-line results (contribution to membership and program revenues) and specific sales related responsibilities in their department and in the overall JCC.
- Training staff both formally and informally on the principles of excellent customer service and cross selling of JCC programs and services.

III. Administration
- Maintaining meaningful tracking & reporting systems.
- Creating consistent and reliable management reports that provide a picture of JCC membership activity.
- Serving as an agent for soliciting and handling all aspects of JCC facility rentals.
- Developing annual departmental budget and monitoring expenses.

IV. Added-Value
- Participating in other efforts as determined by the Executive Director.

V. Hours
- This will be a salaried position including evenings and weekends as needed. Hours may change from time to time based on the needs of the JCC.
- Attending required staff and training meetings.

- Education in related field.
- 3 + years of qualifying experience.
- Ability to relate well with members, potential members, program participants, staff & community stakeholders that represent a cross section of the JCC's diverse community.
- Excellent communication skills; verbal and written.
- Excellent computer skills. Knowledge of basic graphics/design is critical.
- Detail oriented and well-organized, with the ability to plan projects, activities and schedules several months in advance.
- Flexible and able to handle multiple projects at the same time.
- Ensuring that all transactions are handled efficiently, politely and in a manner that is consistent with the accounting policies established by the JCC.
- A positive, upbeat spirit, can do attitude and great sense of fun!

Key Camp Counselors (Ages 16 and Older):
Counselors are assigned to a group of campers along side two additional counselors.  Responsibilities include supervising campers, engaging in camp activities, planning activities where applicable, assisting with swim lesson, being a positive role model, being flexible and having a positive attitude throughout the camp day.

Nature Specialist (Ages 18 and Older):
Looking for a hardworking reliable staff that has a strong background in nature related programming. Would be responsible for organizing, planning, and leading nature related activities for children ages 3-14. Experience working with children is required. Summer camp experience a plus. Submit a camp application for consideration.

Sports Specialist (Ages 18 and Older):
Looking for a hardworking reliable staff that has a strong background in sports and games related programming. Would be responsible for organizing, planning, and leading nature related activities for children ages 3-14. Candidate with Physical Education background is preferred. Experience working with children is required. Summer camp experience a plus.  Submit a camp application for consideration.

Counselor Support Staff (Ages 18 and Older):
Looking for a hardworking reliable staff that has a background in Special Education. This position is to provide extra assistance to campers that may struggle with the camp day. You would work closely with the Camp Behavioral Consultant. Some responsibilities may include creating and implementing behavior plans, helping campers transition from activity to activity, or helping a campers who may need a break from their group. Experience working with children a must, course work or experience in Special Education preferred. Submit a camp applications for consideration.

Camp Maintenance (Ages 18 and Older):
Looking for a hardworking reliable staff that would assume responsibilities of Camp Maintenance. Some responsibilities include maintaining general camp facilities, delivering lunches, emptying trash, pick up and deliveries for special events, emptying trash, set up for camp events and maintaining cleanliness of camp grounds. Would work closely with JCC Maintenance staff throughout summer. NYS Driver's License is required. Submit a camp application for consideration.


After School Enrichment Program Site Director

After School Program Site Director in Niskayuna Looking for a reliable, hardworking, and responsible individual to be a Site Director for a Niskayuna After School Program. This is a part time position of 25 hours a week, Monday-Friday from 1pm-6pm. Employment includes free use of fitness center and indoor pool. You would assume all responsibilities of running a School-Aged after school program. Some responsibilities would include:

  • Ensuring excellent & diverse programming
    • Lead communication between parents, staff, and supervisor
    • Supervising and evaluating staff members 
    • Shopping for supplies
    • Forming relationships with children and parents
    • Enforcing Behavior Management plans
    • Responsible for health and safety of children
    • Keeping the site clean and organized
    • Maintaining accurate daily attendance records
    • Responsible for following rules of site including lock up procedures.

Assistant or Co-Lead Toddler Teacher

The SJCC is in need of a Toddler Teacher who will cooperatively lead the class with another Lead Teacher. We are seeking an individual who has experience working with children who are 18-36 months of age, someone who is innovative, takes initiative, engaging and can foster positive relationships with coworkers, parents and SJCC members.

A Toddler Teacher will create lesson plans with their Co-Teacher and work as a team to execute the developmentally appropriate activities.  A great Teacher is one who actively seeks out ways in which they can lead the group or help their Co-Teacher, is reliable, is able to easily form relationships with young children and can work in collaboration with the Co-Teacher to form a nurturing environment in the classroom. 

Key Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Providing care to each child that is appropriate for the age group.
  • Collaborating closely with the Co-Teacher.
  • Maintaining supervision and safety of the children at all times.
  • Remaining in compliance with OCFS regulations.
  • Reporting to the ECE Director/Assistant Director and following through with assignments.
  • Attending monthly staff meetings and accruing a specified number of training hours.
  • Accepting responsibly for specific assignments at the discretion of the Director.



  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have experience working with young children.
  • Familiarity with NYS OCFS regulations is preferred.
  • Must receive clearance by NYS OCFS at the time of hire.
  • Possesses a warm, loving and nurturing personality.


Early Morning Sports & Wellness Desk Associate

The Schenectady JCC is looking for a reliable, detailed and customer service oriented person to work the early morning shift at its Sports and Wellness Desk. Position Monday - Friday and begins daily at 4:30 am.


After School Counselor

Hiring immediately for activity leaders for Niskayuna After School Programs serving children in grades K - 5. Responsibilities include leading activities such as art, sports, music, drama, nature, cooking etc., supervising outside play, helping with homework. Additional responsibilities include setting up and cleaning up the program, parent communication, record keeping, etc. Hours of the position are Monday - Friday are 1:45 pm - 6:00 pm. The SJCC has an Immediate Opening for Lifeguards. We open at 5:30am and close no later than 9:30pm daily. We have an Indoor pool and an Outdoor pool. Applicants must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard/First Aid Certification. Looking for shifts everyday.

Aqua Instructor

Group Exercise Instructors 

The Schenectady JCC is looking for certified spinning and group fitness instructors to teach at our newly designed fitness facility. We are looking for the top instructors in the area and we are offering a competitive pay scale. We are especially looking for instructors who have experience with teaching high intensity classes, TRX, and Kettle bells.   
WHEN: Day and Evening class times, Sunday-Friday.
WHAT: All Group Exercise Classes. Proper certification & education background is a must. Certification in a variety of classes and at all levels is preferred.

Water Safety Instructor

The SJCC has an Immediate Opening for Water Safety Instructors to teach group Red Cross Lessons and Private Lessons are also available. Classes are held Monday - Friday evenings and also on Sundays. Private Lessons can be offered during open swim any day but Saturday. 

Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.
Strong swimming background.
Must have a current WSI Certification.
Good communications skills.
Ability to work with all age groups.

Personal Trainer                                                              

The Schenectady JCC, a fast growing fitness facility, is looking for a personal trainer. This individual, as a member of the Schenectady JCC team, provides individual and group personal training and assists with the marketing of the Schenectady JCC.


Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Create and demonstrate a safe and effective exercise program for members of the Schenectady JCC in accordance to with the personal trainer coordinator and fitness center director.
  • Maintain professional standards among clients. These standards include: punctuality, proper attire and the creation and maintenance of a friendly, safe and motivating training relationship.
  • Instruct and coach both groups and individuals in various exercises and activities.
  • Help clients assess their physical fitness level and encourage and help them set and reach their fitness goals.
  • Motivate clients and team members.
  • Identify specific training needs.
  • Construct instructional programs customized to each client.
  • Teach clients specific nutritional practices.
  • Demonstrate each physical activity.


  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
  • Certified personal training certificate by recognized authority.
  • A positive, up beat spirit, “can do” attitude and great sense of fun!
