After School Director

The After School Director is responsible for developing, facilitating and overseeing the SJCC after school programming, including the supervision, guidance and stability for program continuity. His/Her responsibility is to focus on running a safe, quality, and enriching program that meets the needs of both children and the families it serves.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Oversee the operations of all SJCC After School Programming.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision and training of staff.
  • Oversees the recruitment efforts for all after school personnel.
  • Communicates closely with participant families.
  • Develops and manages collaborations with other organizations to provide additional opportunities within the programs.
  • Ensures that programs run in accordance with all local and state regulations.
  • Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete welfare of all the children and staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Recreation, Social Work or Related field. Master's Degree preferred
  • 5 years of experience in child care and or summer camp.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience


After School Site Manager

The After School Site Director is responsible for leading the JCC's off-site Kid's Time After School Programs. Reporting to the Director of Youth and Camping Services, his/her main focus is running a safe, quality and enriching after school program that meets the needs of both children and families it serves. The Kid's Time Site Director is responsible for providing leadership, effective guidance and stability for program continuity and to act as a role model for other staff.  He/she must embrace the SJCC's mission and strategic plan in guiding current and future efforts. The After School Site Director must be available for the following shift Monday - Friday 1:30-6:00 pm.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Forming a positive working relationship with the school and JCC personnel.
  • Supervising and evaluating staff members
  • Leads communication between parents and the JCC
  • Ensuring excellent & diverse programming
  • Forming relationships with children and parents
  • Maintaining cleanliness of site
  • Maintaining accurate daily attendance records

Additional Responsibilities:

Throughout the school year, when Niskayuna schools are closed, the JCC offers Vacation Day Programming at the JCC. You will be asked to work during those days. When schools are closed, have half days, or snow days you will also be asked to work. It is mandatory to attend staff training and site director meetings.


  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children
  • 1 year minimum experience managing staff or acting in a leadership role i.e. team captain or department lead.
  • Associates Degree in a related field is preferred
  • Demonstrates experience in program planning and implementation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to be approved by the New York State Office of Children & Family Services
  • A positive, upbeat spirit "can do" attitude and a great sense of fun


Membership Associate

The Membership Associate is responsible for all membership efforts at the Schenectady Jewish Community Center (SJCC). Reporting directly to the Executive Director, his/her main focus is membership sales, retention and associate functions necessary to achieve excellent results. This includes assuring that each member's relationship with the JCC starts out positive in the membership intake process and continues successfully in all of the transactions and interactions that the member has with the SJCC. This position will also actively sell the SJCC as a premier venue for private events, create and maintain good client relationships, and oversees all events at the SJCC. The Membership Associate is expected to be innovative, imaginative and and enthusiastic role model for members and other staff. He/She must embrace the SJCC's mission and strategic plan in guiding current and future efforts.

 Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Proper intake of all new members.
  • Maintaining an accurate & updated list of all current members.
  • Taking potential new members on tours of facility.
  • Organizing special events geared towards membership recruitment and retention
  • Staying current with competitive marketplace, both locally and nationally.
  • Developing marketing/PR materials
  • Creating new opportunities for non-members to add to their participation in the SJCC.
  • Developing working relationships with area synagogues, communal organizations and agencies, schools and businesses related to the work of the SJCC.
  • Helping to develop sales expectations of the SJCC department heads including bottom-line results.
  • Training staff on the principles of excellent customer service. 
  • Creating and maintaining meaningful tracking & reporting systems.
  • Creating consistent and reliable sales reports that will have an accurate picture of SJCC membership.
  • Serve as an agent for soliciting outside rentals of facilities including but not limited to responding to facility inquires and creating rental agreements.
  • Develop annual departmental budget and monitoring expenses.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts as defined by the Executive Director.


  • This is a salaried position including evenings and Sundays. Hours may change from time to time based on the needs of the SJCC.
  • Attending staff meetings are required


  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 3 + years of sales and marketing experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of basic graphics/design is a plus
  • Detailed oriented and well organized, with the ability to plan projects, activities and schedules several months in advance.



Early Childhood Education Floater

The SJCC is in need of a Floater. A Floater is one who is responsible for working in multiple classrooms, depending on need for that particular day. A floater should be comfortable working with many different age groups and be willing to have a flexible schedule.

Key Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Providing care to each child that is appropriate for the age group.
  • Following the direction of the classroom teacher
  • Maintaining supervision and safety of the children at all times.
  • Remaining in compliance with OCFS regulations.
  • Reporting to the ECE Director/Assistant Director and following through with assignments.
  • Attending monthly staff meetings and accruing a specified number of training hours.
  • Accepting responsibly for specific assignments at the discretion of the Director.
  • Understanding and learning how to work in many classrooms in ECE.



  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Must have experience working with young children.
  • Familiarity with NYS OCFS regulations is preferred.
  • Must receive clearance by NYS OCFS at the time of hire.
  • Possesses a warm, loving and nurturing personality.



After School Counselor

Hiring immediately for activity leaders for Niskayuna After School Programs serving children in grades K - 5. Responsibilities include leading activities such as art, sports, music, drama, nature, cooking etc., supervising outside play, helping with homework. Additional responsibilities include setting up and cleaning up the program, parent communication, record keeping, etc. Hours of the position are Monday - Friday are 1:45 pm - 6:00 pm. Interviews are being scheduled ASAP. 



The SJCC has an Immediate Opening for Lifeguards. We open at 5:30am and close no later than 9:30pm daily. We have an Indoor pool and an Outdoor pool. Applicants must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard/First Aid Certification. Looking for shifts everyday.

Aqua Instructor

The Schenectady JCC is in need of Aqua Instructors for all water classes. 

Group Exercise Instructors 

The Schenectady JCC is looking for certified spinning and group fitness instructors to teach at our newly designed fitness facility. We are looking for the top instructors in the area and we are offering a competitive pay scale. We are especially looking for instructors who have experience with teaching high intensity classes, TRX, and Kettle bells.   
WHEN: Day and Evening class times, Sunday-Friday.
WHAT: All Group Exercise Classes. Proper certification & education background is a must. Certification in a variety of classes and at all levels is preferred. 


Water Safety Instructor

The SJCC has an Immediate Opening for Water Safety Instructors to teach group Red Cross Lessons and Private Lessons are also available. Classes are held Monday - Friday evenings and also on Sundays. Private Lessons can be offered during open swim any day but Saturday. 

Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.
Strong swimming background.
Must have a current WSI Certification.
Good communications skills.
Ability to work with all age groups. 



Sport Performance Coach/Personal Trainer                                                              

The Schenectady JCC, a fast growing fitness facility, is looking for a personal trainer. This individual, as a member of the Schenectady JCC team, provides individual and group personal training and assists with the marketing of the Schenectady JCC.


Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Create and demonstrate a safe and effective exercise program for members of the Schenectady JCC in accordance to with the personal trainer coordinator and fitness center director.
  • Maintain professional standards among clients. These standards include: punctuality, proper attire and the creation and maintenance of a friendly, safe and motivating training relationship.
  • Instruct and coach both groups and individuals in various exercises and activities.
  • Help clients assess their physical fitness level and encourage and help them set and reach their fitness goals.
  • Motivate clients and team members.
  • Identify specific training needs.
  • Construct instructional programs customized to each client.
  • Teach clients specific nutritional practices.
  • Demonstrate each physical activity.


  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
  • Certified personal training certificate by recognized authority.
