What is the After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) at the Robert and Dorothy Ludwig SJCC?

ASEP is an exciting program that is designed to meet the needs of each child.  ASEP primarily serves the Niskayuna school district.  (Transportation from Niskayuna schools is provided by the Niskayuna Transportation Department.)  Children from schools outside the district are welcome, but you must provide transportation.

ASEP is divided by grade for homeroom (2:20 pm – 3:00 pm). There they have snack and play games with their friends.  In advance, children and parents choose specialty classes, which run for 8-10 weeks at a time, Monday - Thursday.  Classes are offered to meet the needs and interests of the children and may include sports classes, art classes, swim lessons, etc.  Children are always given the option to choose the Free Time Room or the Homework Room.   For most of the specialty classes they are divided into 2 groups.  The 1st and 2nd graders are in the Yeladim group (Children).  The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are in the Tzofim group (Scouts).  Each group has counselors who have been trained to supervise and interact with school-age children.

Daily Schedule for ASEP

2:20-3:00 p.m.: The children arrive from the elementary schools

and enjoy a snack and free play.

3:00 p.m.:        Children attend their first specialty class.

4:00 p.m.:        Children attend their second specialty class.

5:00 p.m.:        Children meet again in their homerooms for attendance, a nutritious snack, and free play.

        Friday Programming

On Fridays, we focus on a variety of Jewish themes.  Normally, our focus is on upcoming Jewish Holidays or other relevant topics such as Mitzvot (good deeds).  A variety of activities make Fridays fun, as well as educational.  The programs are designed so that all children, regardless of religious background, can participate and feel comfortable.

Half-Days

ASEP provides additional care for children on school half-days.  This is included in your fee, as long as your child is regularly scheduled to attend ASEP on that day

School Vacations/Snow Days

The JCC also offers school vacation day and snow day programs.  These are available for an additional charge, and you must pre-register your child for each day you would like him/her to attend.
